IETE has been recognised as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The Centre is called IETE Australia. It has commenced operation since May 2017 and is based in Perth. In addition to Australia it will also look after New Zealand, Fiji and other Pacific Islands members.
We aim to help members increase their knowledge about topics of current technology and provide opportunities to members to further excel themselves and rise up in value chain. Membership is open to anyone who may have interest in the activities of IETE Australia.

IETE Australia is a not-for- profit body, which functions for the benefit of its members. It operates like a professional club and is open to everyone who has interest in learning or promoting the advancements in Electronics, Telecom, Computer Science and Information Technology. It provides opportunities for free high technology learning, work experience and mentoring facilities.

In January 2017, the Secretary General of IETE mentioned to Mr Atul Garg that IETE is interested in expanding into Western countries by setting up IETE Centers and asked if Mr Atul Garg will be interested in leading the development of a Professional Activity Centre in Australia. Mr Garg welcomed this idea and responded by saying that it will be an absolute honour to lead the creation and management of a Professional Activity Centre of such a prestigious organization as IETE.

Mr Garg provided a suitable proposal on 27 April 2017 and updated proposal on 6 May 2017, which was formally approved by the IETE Governing Council in its meeting, held on 9 July 2017. Thus, a new organization IETE Australia, which would operate as a professional activity center of IETE (India), was born.

A Management Committee was elected at the 3rd symposium on 30 July 2017, under the Chairmanship of Mr Atul Garg. The other committee members elected were, Tarun Dewan (Dy Chairperson), Pramod Kapoor (Secretary), Davishi Verma (Treasurer), Ramona Chauhan (Committee Member Media (Website, Facebook, LinkedIn). Later, two more committee members namely Anunaya Sinha (from Canberra) and Manpreet Singh (from Melbourne) were added.

On 31 July 2017 Mr Garg requested the School of Engineering and IT at the Murdoch University for providing a venue and use of equipment for running the IETE Australia symposiums. The Dean – Professor Bogdan Dlugogorski was kind enough to approve the usage of Murdoch University facilities. Since 27 August 2017 the symposiums have been held at the Murdoch University. This support is gratefully acknowledged by IETE Australia.

A basic website was developed on 8 February 2018, which will continue to be improved with the passage of time.
